For students who have families coming into town for Clemson's Family Weekend and are looking for things to do that show off the Tiger experience, we have got you covered! Here are just a few of the many fun activities available in town.
Game Day in Clemson, SC
Wake up and get ready because it's gameday! Family Weekend typically happens when there is a home game for Clemson Football within the first couple weeks of the semester. This is a great opportunity for your families to get a feel for what you have been up to, and it is a fun way to share a little piece of your college life with them. You may choose to rent a tailgate spot at Tiger Walk so that you can grill all day, socialize with other Clemson fans, and watch Tiger Band play Tiger Rag while the football players enter the stadium. Another option is to make breakfast at your Clemson off-campus apartment and head down later. You can walk through downtown to see waves of Orange and Purple, shop around the stores in downtown Clemson, and get your "Beat (opposing team)" sticker. Many restaurants and bars will have game day menus and discounts, so be sure to check those out!
Another quintessential stop on your southern adventure is getting authentic barbecue, and where better than Smokin' Pig! There are three locations near the Clemson area in Pendleton, Easley and Anderson. They have jugs of sweet tea, mac and cheese, ribs, brisket and other classic barbecue items that are delicious. They also have an outdoor area with turf, lights, and games to entertain the whole family while you're waiting for your food. If you don't want to eat there, get some take out and head back to your off-campus apartment in Clemson!
Get breakfast at Sunnyside Cafe
While on the subject of food, another local gem is the Sunnyside Cafe. It is consistently packed, so make sure to call ahead. This establishment offers a variety of breakfast and lunch items. It is a welcoming and cozy cafe with super friendly staff.
Tour of Campus
While your family is in town, it might be cool to show them around the campus. You could take them on your routes to class, show them where you study in the Wilbur O. and Ann Powers College of Business, and take a picture in front of Old Main. This is another fun way to include your family in this chapter of your life.
Get Outside
If you have some downtime and the weather is nice, the Dikes are a pretty place to walk right near your Clemson apartment. Located right on Lake Hartwell, you and your family can talk with each other with a great view. Once you cross the street, it will take you to the rowing docks. You could walk out and take some pictures at sunset! Additionally, Clemson is near Lakes Hartwell and Keowee. You can head out to Y-Beach and jump in the refreshing water after a hot day or rent a boat for the weekend. Another beautiful area to walk around is the South Carolina Botanical Gardens. There are different paths available to explore and gorgeous greenery to enjoy. Along the way, check out the historical aspects of the Garden.
These are just a few potential activities you and your family may enjoy over family weekend. Make the most of your time, and show your families what you like to do here in Clemson!
