Move In Day
Starting your journey at Clemson University is exciting, but moving into your new apartment or on-campus housing can be stressful. Packing up everything you own and getting it all to campus might make you realize just how much stuff you've accumulated over time. But don’t worry, ApartmentsForClemson has some tips that will help make the process smoother and less overwhelming.

Freshman Move-In:
Clemson University Housing has a very informative page that outlines all the essential information students need for on-campus move in. As all first-year students must live in a residence hall, move-in day can get crowded and hectic. Move-in day is assigned on the website above and differs slightly every year. Incoming students must go on their housing portal and sign up for a specific day to move in.
Parking is open right in front of each residence hall, and the information on where to park can be found on the Housing website. There are also tags you can print out with your name, grade, and room. I highly recommend printing out these tags and taping them to your belongings in case you lose something!
Start Packing Early But Be Strategic
Now that you have selected your move-in day, it is time to pack. The earlier you begin, the better! Start with the things you do not need immediately—like books, extra clothes, and seasonal items. For instance, if you are moving to Clemson in the fall, pack your summer clothes first. As move-in day approaches, you will gradually pack up everything else, leaving only the essentials. Consider labeling your belongings to separate them by category too!
How to Transport Your Belongings to Clemson University
Now that you have packed everything up, it is time to figure out how to get it to Clemson. You will need a truck if you are bringing furniture or heavy items. Consider asking a few friends to help you load and unload. Make sure you plan your route, considering where you will park for unloading and any potential roadblocks. If you are moving into a dorm, you might have to deal with limited parking spaces, so a little research ahead of time can save you a lot of headaches.
Keep Essentials Accessible
On move-in day, the last thing you want is to be hunting for your toiletries or a change of clothes. Pack a separate bag or box with everything you’ll need right away—your toothbrush, charger, snacks, and a fresh set of clothes. If you’re moving into a dorm, having your bedding, towels, and a few kitchen essentials easily accessible will help you feel at home faster.
Here are some room essentials that I recommend:
- Air filter
- Shower caddy
- Power strip
- Portable fan
- Desk lamp
- Stacked pants hanger

Make It Fun!
Moving might seem like a hassle, but it’s all part of the adventure. If you stay organized and give yourself enough time to prepare, you'll be able to focus on the excitement of starting your Clemson journey. Whether you’re heading to an apartment or a dorm, the goal is to make the process as easy as possible so you can focus on everything else that comes with college life.
Enjoy your move-in day, and welcome to Clemson University!
